Japan's radio certification (技術基準適合証明・工事設計認証, "Giteki") is granted to a specific piece of equipment as tested. For modules, the record in the MIC database names the holder, the type name, the frequencies and output power, and the certifying body.
When your product inherits the module's certification
Roughly, when the module is used exactly as certified: the same antenna (the onboard PCB antenna, or the specific external antenna listed), unchanged RF firmware and output settings, and the module's own shielding. In that case the finished product still needs the Giteki mark displayed — on the product or shown electronically in the UI — with the certification number, but usually no new testing.
When it does not
- A different antenna, or an antenna moved to a different position on your board.
- Changed output power, channel plan or duty cycle in RF firmware.
- A module certified only for the vendor's development board.
- Third-party clones of a reference design (a common issue with ESP8266/ESP32 clones sold under different names).
In those cases product-level certification is likely: technical conformity certification for small runs, or construction design certification for series production.
How to check
Use the Giteki lookup with the exact module type name. Read the type name and holder carefully: "ESP32-WROOM-32" and "ESP32-WROOM-32E" are separate records, and a certification held by a Japanese distributor may be limited to that distributor's product. When in doubt, ask the module vendor which certification number covers your variant and whether it is conditional on the module antenna.
